PROGRAMS | What We Do

Everything we do is geared to helping you become a more successful writer, no matter how you define success. More writing income? More readers? More control of your craft? More fun in the writing life? Winston-Salem Writers offers programs to get you there.

OPEN MIC NIGHTS

This popular offering has just celebrated its fifth anniversary. Held the third Wednesday of each month, our Open Mic offers members and nonmembers an opportunity to share their work with a live audience.

Sometimes it’s good to go into a topic in more depth than is possible in our regular programs. So…Saturday workshops. Recent programs include “Creating Believable Characters,” “Writing for Magazines,” and “The Business Side of Writing.”

WORKSHOPS and SEMINARS

If you’re serious about improving your craft, you’ll want the discipline and accountability that come with being in a critique group. Ours are open to members only; you can check them out here.

CRITIQUE GROUPS
WRITERS' NIGHT OUT

A small group of members gather in a member’s home to talk about writing, literature, life and whatever else the group wanders onto, while enjoying potluck food and drink. Usually held on the fourth Friday of the month. If you’re a member and would like to join them, send us an email.

WRITING CONTESTS

We sponsor a 10-Minute Play Contest annually and publish the online literary Journal Flying South. See those pages on this site for more information.

ANNUAL BOOK DRIVE

Winston-Salem Writers manages an ongoing book drive with all donations going to the libraries at the Forsyth County Jail and the Prison location.

Paperback books that are generally positive in theme and content are preferred.
