Arts & Letters Daily
Too highbrow for us ordinary mortals? Naw. This site never ceases to amaze, entertain, and educate. Besides, how can anybody cram so much content into a single screen?
Author Interviews
Need a break from writing? Browse interviews with some of today's best known writers at Powell's well-designed site.
Bartleby
An absolute must for every writer's tool kit. The site's boastful banner ("The preeminent Internet publisher of literature, reference and verse providing...unlimited access to information on the web, free of charge.") is only a tad over the top.
Booknotes
The permanent online archive for C-SPAN’s award-winning author-interview program includes 800 interviews. Searchable video, too.
Bookslut
Only a web admin with a warped sense of humor would follow the staid Booknotes with the not-so-staid Bookslut. So sue us. The latter, edited by Jessa Crispin, is a monthly web magazine and daily blog "dedicated to those who love to read." Proclaims Crispin, "We provide a constant supply of news, reviews, commentary, insight, and more than occasional opinions." Strong opinions, you might say.
Bulwer-Lytton Contest
The 2007 results of the famous "worst writing competition" includes this winning entry, submitted by Jm Gleeson of Madison, Wisconsin:

"Gerald began--but was interrupted by a piercing whistle which cost him ten percent of his hearing permanently, as it did everyone else in a ten-mile radius of the eruption, not that it mattered much because for them "permanently" meant the next ten minutes or so until buried by searing lava or suffocated by choking ash--to pee."

Fiction: How to Critique It
Want to help another writer? One way is to offer constructive criticism either one-on-one or in a critique group. Writer Victory Crayne tells you how.
Gryphon Books
Books for writers, by writers. A wide variety of new and used references.
Hub City Writers
And we think we have accomplished a lot in a short period of time. Wait until you see what the writers and poets of Spartanburg have done!
Language Corner
Evan Jenkins, consulting editor of the Columbia Journalism Review, weighs in on writing rules and rebellion. Bookmark this site no matter what kind of prose you write.
North Carolina Poetry Society
An all-volunteer organization, like our own, that has been promoting Tarheel poets and poetry since 1932.
North Carolina Writers' Network
Now under new management (Ed Southern, formerly of John F. Blair Publishers, has taken over as executive director), this statewide organization hosts workshops and conferences, and offers other services to members. The web site is undergoing a redesign.
Preditors & Editors
Although perhaps best known for its scam warnings, this site is truly "a guide to publishers and writing services..."
Turkey City Lexicon
One of your webmaster's alltime favorites. Laugh...and learn...at the same time. For example: Tom Swifty -- An unseemly compulsion to follow the word "said" with a colorful adverb, as in "We'd better hurry," Tom said swiftly.
Word Play
From highbrow to...well, something a bit less. This collection of links is subtitled Sites that Feature Fun with Words. 'Nuff said.
Writers Group of the Triad
Headquartered in Greensboro, WGOT sponsors a variety of critique groups and other programs. We hope to work together to benefit our members and theirs.
