Open Mic Night

Use Your Voice

During a WSW Open Mic, members and future members read brief excerpts from their prose and poetry. Others attend just to socialize. The purpose is to give writers and poets greater experience in presenting to a live, friendly, and receptive audience. Unlike the process at a “slam,” there’s no judging.

Since its inception in late 2005, Open Mic has consistently been one of WSW’s most popular events.

Open Mic Guidlines

  1. Sign-up begins at 6:30 p.m. and ends when 16 readers have signed up, but not later than 7:00 p.m.
  2. Only members and guests who are present in person may sign up. WSW members will be given priority.
  3. Readings start at 7 p.m.
  4. Readings cannot exceed five (5) minutes including introductory remarks.
  5. We would rather not have to call “time” on anyone, so we recommend strongly that you rehearse your reading to keep it within the five-minute limit.
