Everything we do is geared to helping you become a more successful writer, no matter how you define success. More writing income? More readers? More control of your craft? More fun in the writing life? Winston-Salem Writers offers programs to get you there.

Monthly Meeting
Each month (September – June) we offer our regular monthly program. We present a variety of programs of interest to writers in any genre. Some recent examples include “The Mystery of the Mystery,” “Poetry Workshop,” “Social Media and Your Writing,” and “Is Self-Publishing Right for You?”
Writing Contests
Our 2012 10-Minute Play Contest will close on January 31st, 2012; winners will be announced on March 24th, and the reading of the winners’ play will be late April or early May. Our 2011 Anthology Contest closed on March 15th, and our Cover Design Contest closed June 1st. Watch this space for our 2012 contests.
Open Mic Nights
This popular offering has just celebrated its fifth anniversary. Held the third Tuesday of each month, our Open Mic offers members and nonmembers an opportunity to share their work with a live audience.
Saturday Special Workshops
Sometimes it’s good to go into a topic in more depth than is possible in our regular programs. So…Saturday workshops. Recent programs include “Creating Believable Characters,” “Writing for Magazines,” and “The Business Side of Writing.”
Intense Workshops with Pat Schneider
Pat Schneider is founder and director emeritus of Amherst Writers and Artists. One of America’s most inspiring teachers of creative writing, her workshop in Winston-Salem in 2011 was sold out. Pat will return in 2012 for her seventh straight year; members are discounted $100.
Critique Groups
If you’re serious about improving your craft, you’ll want the discipline and accountability that come with being in a critique group. Ours are open to members only; you can check them out here.
Writers’ Night Out
Each month, a small group of members gather in a member’s home to talk about writing, literature, life and whatever else the group wanders onto, while enjoying potluck food and drink. If you’re a member and would like to join them, send us an email.
Serials
We’ve written three serials now, with each chapter of 500 to 1000 words being written by a different member, who decides which way to take the story next. Our first serial was a mystery, the second a romance, the third was horror. You can check them out here. So if you’re a member and would like to write a chapter of our next serial – we’re thinking of autobiography – send us an email.
